In game, you can see both the weapon and blueprint before you make your choice.

This is not a bug, at Interbiome your new Blueprints are first put at the TOP of the Equipment deck, then when you get to the Merchant the purchase is made from the TOP of the equipment deck, this is why your blueprint was the equipment bought (or as you put it, why it showed you the equipment before you made your choice)
Secondly, as per the rules, the order is quite exact
First, Blueprints obtained thus far are put at the TOP of Equipment deck
Second, you visit the Healer for Healing
Third, you visit the Merchant to purchase Equipment (remember this WILL be the Blueprint in step 1 IF you obtained one, otherwise it's random)
Fourth, you visit the Collector to purchase a Blueprint which you place directly on TOP of Equipment Deck (This means the next time you take Equipment it WILL be this Blueprint)
