I'd prefer to keep targeting requirements as they are, because skilled players won't benefit from this very much, and new players will be hurt a lot. That said, technically you always resolve skills top to bottom, left to right. You spend the action first, gain/spend the courage, then resolve the skill. Similar to demons, if you do not have a valid target, your skill ends. My recommendation for anyone looking to get that little extra juice out of the system is to stop being n00b and get more skillz so you don't need to waste actions like that 😆.

Bug is that the skill should have ended with no valid target and so not tested for or granted the extra courage.
